![]() This method originated in Japan. Its name is a combination of the two words shi atsu, meaning finger pressure. The method is based on the principle that opposing powers in nature function in harmony, and illness is an indication of a lack of balance between two forces. The Shiatsu method of treatment works by pressuring certain points along the human body. The pressure is applied in various positions along energy tracts, and the patient thus reaches balance on all levels. Focused treatment along the energy tracts is performed by Chinese acupuncture as well. Shiatsu treats the same points using finger pressure and massage with the thumb. The benefits of this system are: 1. the treatment is not invasive and 2. it reaches the pressure points through the clothing, allowing the treatment to be given easily and comfortably. Shiatsu can play a significant role in balancing unstable psychological conditions. It can alleviate suffering in both acute and chronic conditions.
