Diagnosis according to tongue and pulse

This ancient method is another branch of Chinese healing. The tongue is a reflective limb that contains in its form, color and sensitivities information about the condition of other parts of the body. The tongue is not only a motor organ that moves food and enables speech; anyone who observes the tongue will find that it is divided down the middle to two and that there are major differences in thickness, redness, lumps and more between the inner and outer parts. The diagnostician checks the condition of the tongue and thereby ascertains the sources of weakness and disease in other parts of the body. The tongue provides very precise information about a person’s health using the specific definitions of Chinese medicine.

An additional tool acquired in this course is the Chinese method of checking the pulses. Unlike Western doctors, who are not concerned with variations in the pulse, the Chinese doctor learns to identify a number of pulses. Diagnosis of the pulses is based on the principle of energy flow through the meridian tracts.

This method is an integral part of Chinese medicine but is taught as a separate unit for those who want to broaden their range of diagnostic tools. The course is taught only to students with a background in alternative medicine and to students studying Chinese medicine.
