Deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage is another branch of healing through massage. This method, as its name indicates, uses deep massaging techniques to penetrate deeply into the muscle tissue where stress is harbored. Each of us has a unique physical and psychological makeup, and we each carry our life story in our bodies. There are distinct variations from one person to another in the position and posture of the spine, in the level of stress of the muscles, in the skin and muscle tone, and in breathing depth and quality.

The goal of treatment with deep tissue massage is to guide the patient to a change in lifestyle that will enable him to move with greater freedom, give him the capacity to realize the potential ingrained in him, and broaden his spectrum of sensitivities and movements. This treatment has extensive physical and psychological ramifications. People who work on deeper levels of the muscle learn to work with smaller movements, because the smaller the movement, the less the pain.

Since physical touch reaches a person’s sensitive psyche, every touch to the patient causes a deep connection between the healer and the patient. Touch also reawakens memories and brings many hidden sensations to the surface. This method of treatment therefore calls for a very serious attitude and a strong awareness of the reactions of the patient. It is important to remember that deep tissue massage is a physical treatment and not a psychological one. The healer must therefore be ready to support and encourage the patient, but professional psychological help might be necessary for the emotional dimension.

The goal of the treatment is to enable the patient to move past difficult situations and to direct him to healthier self-awareness.
